Destruction Magic Is Skyrim Favorite

Destruction MagicAccording to the latest Skyrim Fansite poll, Destruction magic is the favorite magic skill. A whopping 51% of poll takers chose Destruction magic over all the other magic skills. Obviously gamers like to take the offensive when it comes to casting spells in Skyrim. And who can blame ’em? Nothing like a little Chain Lighting to bring a smile to a player’s face as a bunch of Falmer are being fried. Hey, is that sizzling Skulker I smell?

Coming in second was Conjuration with 19% of the vote followed by Enchanting with 13%. Illusion came in fourth place with 11% of the vote with Restoration and Alteration bringing up the rear with 4% and 2% respectively. One of the best things about Skyrim is the variety of spells available and the ability to concentrate character development on any of the magic skill sets. Looking at the results of our latest poll, Destruction magic is the runaway favorite.

Destruction-Magic-2Harnessing the elements of fire, frost and shock, Destruction magic is used to cause damage and destruction. The skill improves the more times a player casts spells successfully against enemies. Bonus effects are realized in addition to the initial damage inflicted:

  • Flame spells set foes on fire (causing additional damage over time)
  • Frost spells slow down and drain opponent’s stamina
  • Shock spells sap an enemy’s magicka

Players can compound the effects of damage and destruction through the Dual Casting perk, in essence turning a player into a “two-fisted” spell caster.

The following is a list of Destruction spells available in Skyrim. Flame spells are in red, Frost spells are in blue, and Shock spells are in purple:

Thanks for your comment 🙂 Destruction magic definitely is useful at lower levels, and it’s almost addicting trying to level up for more powerful spells. On my first Skyrim play through I focused so much on destruction magic that my character became unbalanced. I learned that you can’t always blast your way out of a bad situation with a fire ball, but I have to admit that it’s fun trying!
