Skyrim The Best Video RPG Game Ever

Skyrim-Best-RPG-Game-EverI have to tell you that I’m not easily impressed. But from the very moment I first fired up The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on my Xbox 360 I knew I was in for something special. From the game’s opening soundtrack to the beginning scene when you’re bouncing down the road in the back of an Imperial prison wagon, I knew Skyrim was different from other rpg video games that I’ve played. In a word, the game left me breathless — and I’m apparently not the only one who thinks so. Skyrim recently blew away the competition for the top game of the year at this year’s Spike Video Game awards. I’ll go one step further. In my opinion, Skyrim is the best rpg video game ever. Yes, you heard me right. Ever!

Skyrim really won me over, and I suppose it’s hard to be objective when I’m such a fan-boy, but the game is that good. Sure, Skyrim isn’t without it’s faults (why the heck can’t you fight on horseback for crying out loud? And what’s with the same three or four voice actors doing all the dialog for the game’s NPCs?), but the positives more than make up for it in every way. It’s the first video rpg where I actually felt like I was playing a traditional table top role playing game. Granted, you don’t roll rpg dice to create your character and you don’t need pen and paper, but you’re given a lot of options for designing the perfect rpg adventurer. Are you into magic and want to cast powerful destruction spells early on? No problem — do what I did and choose a High Elf. How about a hack and slash fighter? Someone who knows how to handle a blade and won’t be pushed around? No worries — select a Redguard or an Orc. Once you pick your character race the real fun begins and you can customize your character’s build and facial features. I spent over an hour tweaking my character, Galadorn, until he looked just perfect. Don’t forget the scars and tattoos!

I could go on and on about Skyrim, and I plan to do so in future blog articles (just wait until I start talking about crafting your own magic weapons with the Enchanting skill). Needless to say, I’ve played an awful lot of video rpg games in my lifetime and Skyrim is hands down the absolute best. Ever.
