ESO Delay For Xbox One And PS4

ESO Delay

Recent announcement reveals ESO delay for Xbox One and PS4 consoles.

Say it ain’t so! According to an announcement made yesterday on the official Elder Scrolls Online website, the release date for Xbox One and Playstation 4 has been delayed for about six months. This is disappointing news for gamers looking forward to playing ESO on their next generation consoles. Initially, the ESO release date was slated for June, but this isn’t happening.

According to the announcement, the ESO delay is being caused by unique problems specific to the consoles:

We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks-which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other-has been a challenging process. It has become clear that our planned June release of the console versions isn’t going to be possible. Though we have made great progress, we have concluded that we’ll need about six months to ensure we deliver the experience our fans expect and deserve.

In an effort to help Xbox One and PS4 gamers, a special offer is being made. Anyone who buys and plays the PC/Mac version of the The Elder Scrolls Online through June will be able to transfer their characters to either console once the game is released:

  • The special offer will allow console gamers to begin playing ESO immediately.
  • Console gamers won’t have to pay full price for the game twice.
  • For $20, PC/Mac gamers can transfer their characters to Xbox One or PS4 with another 30 days of included game time.

Despite the disappointment caused by the ESO delay, the special offer is being well received on the official ESO forums. Generally, gamers seem to be happy and appreciate the gesture being made by the devs. Case in point — a poster named Psi writes:

Yeah I gotta say this is a great deal/great move when you have a problem that causes a delay but a pretty solid solution that will allow console players to not have to “start at the beginning” at launch and also it barely costs anything to get the console version and transfer your account – $20 is good stuff. Good job guys.

Another poster named Evergreen writes:

Being able to transfer your character to the console version for only $20 and another 30days of game time is just amazing. Thank you Zenimax and I’m glad to read you guys are taking some more time for a polished console release.

How do you feel about the ESO delay? Do you agree with gamers like Psi and Evergreen who seem happy with the special offer, and does the devs gesture truly help console gamers anxiously awaiting to play The Elder Scrolls Online? I’ve started a forum thread on this issue for you to share your thoughts and opinions. Let’s hear what you have to say, fellow travelers!
