Skyrim Legendary Edition Overview

Skyrim-Legendary-EditionEarlier this summer, Bethesda released the Skyrim Legendary Edition. I covered the pre-release announcement in an earlier Skyrim Fansite article. While we here at the Fansite were excited to see a definitive Skyrim released — the most up-to-date version of the game plus the three DLC addons (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn) — the release was bittersweet, for it officially marked the end of the game we love so well.

C’est lavie … no more crying in my Horningbrew Mead. What’s done is done, and like so many of you I still haven’t fully explored everything the world of Skyrim has to offer. It’s hard to be sad when there’s still so much to see and so much to do!

And speaking of things to do, I decided now would be a good time to record a YouTube video giving an overview of the Skyrim Legendary Editon (something I intended to do back in June, but unfortunately never got around to). Lately we received questions in our inbox regarding the release, wanting to know our opinion as to whether gamers should upgrade to Legendary and wondering how the DLC content is delivered (on disc or online via a redeemable coupon code). For the video, I give an overview of the Skyrim Legendary Edition and unbox a brand new copy of the Xbox 360 version to show viewers what’s on the inside (all the information presented in the video is applicable to the PS3 and PC versions as well).

All in all, I was pleased with how Bethesda put together the release (a minor gripe regarding the included map — I go into detail in the video), and it’s definitely a good thing for gamers to have a hard copy of the DLC at their disposal.

So what are your thoughts regarding the Skyrim Legendary Edition? Do you have a copy yet, and if not, do you plan on upgrading to this version in the future?

I was wondering in your you-tube how come u didn’t mention anything about what you get from the Legendary pack beside just the DLC like the legendary difficulty and the fact that you can get lvl and skill and all that non stop? that’s the only reason i am thinking of getting the legendary and was wanting to know your thoughts on the matter.

thank you

Hi Michael,

Thank you for your excellent question. I was so fixated on the DLC components of Skyrim Legendary that I didn’t go into detail about the latest game version included in the release and failed to talk about the “legendary difficulty” setting altogether.

When Skyrim Legendary was first released, there was a rumor that the “legendary difficulty” setting was unique to the game. This isn’t true. The Skyrim Legendary Edition is the most up-to-date version of Skyrim you can purchase off the shelf and includes all current patches, including patch 1.9 which added the additional “legendary difficulty” setting and removal of level cap. Information on Skyrim patch 1.9 can be found here.

It’s conceivable that Bethesda will release more patches in the future (no new content though according to the company, just minor updates as needed according to their infamous April 15, 2013 blog announcement), but if a gamer wants/needs the most up-to-date game version in one neat package, Skyrim Legendary is the way to go.

I hope this helps!
