Ice Wraith Vanity Pet For Loyal ESO Subscribers

The Ice Wraith vanity pet is the first reward in The Elder Scrolls Online subscriber loyalty program.

Yesterday, I wrote about the upcoming enhancements to The Elder Scrolls Online (in case you missed the article, you can read it here). One of the game improvements is a loyalty program that will reward ESO subscribers with special in-game items — the first being a unique Ice Wraith vanity pet. This afternoon, the devs provided more information about the program and provided a screen shot of the Ice Wraith (pictured above).

According to today’s information, the Ice Wraith vanity pet will be known as the “High Hrothgar Wraith.” From the screen shot, the pet looks wicked-cool, and is a departure from the Scuttler, Monkey, and other cute/adorable pets currently in-game.

To receive the Ice Wraith vanity pet and other program rewards, players need to be paid subscribers. According to the devs:

…we think it’s important to give some special recognition to those of you who have already been there every step of the way.

The loyalty program begins this September, and every paid account that has been subscribed for three months will receive the Ice Wraith (the three month period doesn’t include game time included with the initial purchase of the game). The program will continue to expand over time, with the next reward presented to six month subscribers.

Player reaction to the subscriber loyalty program has been positive for the most part, as evidenced by the ongoing discussion on the official Elder Scrolls Online forums. A player with the handle asterixchaos writes:

I’ve got to say: I’m pretty excited about this. Part of what kept me signed up for Champions Online for so long was their kick-ass loyalty program. I can’t wait to see what ESO has for us!

Still, others aren’t quite enamored with the Ice Wraith vanity pet. Palidon writes:

ESO is turning into a Pet Zoo. Enough of these pets. Want to reward loyalty then give a set of armor or award skill points. Everywhere I go now I see pigs, dogs, crabs, monkey’s etc following players. Not to mention, they take up bank and inventory space of those fools who think it is cool to sport a stupid pet behind them. Now soon a High Hrothgar Wraith pet Well when the reward comes out you can bypass me I don’t want the darn thing.

So what do you think? Do you like the idea of an ESO subscriber loyalty program? If so, what are your thoughts on the Ice Wraith vanity pet? Share your opinions in the Speak Your Mind section below.
